Have your say on our Draft 2024/25 Annual Plan
The consultation period on our draft 2024/25 Annual Plan has now closed and we are preparing for Deliberations.
Our Draft 2024/25 Annual Plan in a nutshell
At the start of 2024, we decided to accept a one-off offer from the Government to pause the work on our 2024-2034 Long Term Plan (LTP) and instead focus on creating a 2024/25 Annual Plan.
The decision to defer the 2024-2034 LTP was made with our communities in mind. We’re committed to enhancing community wellbeing and building a stronger future together. We remain focused on our vision of creating liveable, thriving, and connected communities, by funding and delivering core services and infrastructure. We have gone through our budgets with a fine-toothed comb to identify areas where we can reduce spending, but we still need to address significant increases in how much things now cost within this challenging economic environment.
We want to hear from you
Now it’s your chance to have your say on our draft 2024/25 Annual Plan. Use the submission form below to tell us what you think about the activities, projects, programmes, priorities, and initiatives we’re proposing over the next 12 months and beyond.
Background
In February 2024, central government provided local councils with the flexibility to develop an 'enhanced’ Annual Plan for the 2024/25 financial year, and subsequently developing a 9-year long term plan for 2025–2034, rather than continuing with a 2024-2034 Long Term Plan. Waikato District Council has opted to take this approach.
Delivering a 2024/25 Annual Plan allows us more time to gain greater certainty about the government’s next steps regarding initiatives such as ‘Local Water Done Well’ and transport priorities and funding. This also aligns our planning more closely with broader government objectives.
The Plan will provide details about our work programmes for the year, where our resources are being allocated, and how we are responding to community wants and needs.
