Tamahere Reserve Concept Plan

In partnership with the Tamahere Community Group, the Mangaone Trust, council is planning for the future of the Tamahere Reserve (bush block on Tauwhare road).

Our goal is to gather your ideas on how we can enhance the existing bush tracks, improve access and parking, and add minor amenities while preserving the reserve's natural character. Your feedback is the most important part of this process and will guide our decisions.

From Friday 12th December until Friday 30th January, we’re inviting the community to share their thoughts on our Tamahere Reserve upgrades project to help shape how the reserve is improved and used in the years ahead.

Note: there will be a drop-in design session held by Boffa Miskell and Waikato District Council to discuss early ideas. This session will be held in the first quarter of 2026, a date is yet to be confirmed.

We want to know what currently works well, and what upgrades or opportunities our communities think are important for Tamahere Reserve to better reflect local needs.

Feedback gathered during this period will directly inform the Concept Design of the space being undertaken by Boffa Miskell, meaning the community’s voice plays a key role in deciding what gets prioritised, where investment goes, and how our community reserve is upgraded for today’s users and future generations.

How can you help?

We want your ideas to help shape the future of this reserve. Below are two options to give your feedback.

Map Submissions

The Tamahere Reserve, currently has two key land forms; a large undulating open space at the top of the site and a network of trails developed over the last 15 years. We are proposing to formalise a use for the upper area and improve accessibility between the upper and lower portions of the site.

These upgrades will be based on YOUR feedback.

We have split the reserve into 3 zones:

Zone 1: Includes the currently underutilised large, undulating open space at the top of the site

Zone 2: Is the transition/access space between Zone 1 and Zone 3

Zone 3: Existing trail network and boardwalks at the lower levels of the site
