Accessway between Semple Street and Webb Street, Huntly

Waikato District Council currently owns an accessway that runs between Semple Street and Webb Street in Huntly, Raahui Pokeka.

The portion of the road/accessway to be stopped was created upon subdivision in 1951. In a recent Council review, the accessway has been deemed dangerous to the public and should be permanently closed. This has been based on community and Police feedback. The accessway has been boarded up and unable to be used since 2022. A decision in principle has been made by the Council to approve the stopping of the road, subject to public notification.

Stopping of the road is a legal process under the Local Government Act 1974. If the application is successful, the road proposed to be stopped will have its designation as a legal road removed and reverted to a fee simple and parts will be amalgamated with two of the adjoining owners existing land titles.

Public notification

Waikato District Council is now publicly notifying the proposed road stopping processes to ensure the community has an opportunity to provide feedback.

Public notices for the road stopping proposal were published in the Te Kauwhata Chatter on 25 March 2026 and again on 22 April 2026. The closing date for objections is 4 May 2026.
