Proposed update to Schedule 7 of the Traffic Bylaw

Waikato District Council is proposing to prohibit private light motor vehicles on some of the roads within the Northgate Business Park in Horotiu, between the hours of 9pm and 4am.

This prohibition would not apply to vehicles legitimately visiting or operating within any business that is within the prohibited area, or to passenger service vehicles (such as taxis or ridesharing services).

Council is proposing to put prohibitions on these roads to help minimise anti-social driving (boy racing) in the Northgate Business Park, and to provide the NZ Police with more enforcement options, when people breach these prohibitions. It is also intended to help minimise road damage and associated issues such as littering and property damage.

This would allow the Police to move people on if they are gathering on roads and causing nuisance to residents and/or driving in circuits and other nuisance driving (described in the Bylaw as ‘cruising’).

Council welcomes your feedback on the proposed Light Motor Vehicle prohibitions, with consultation open from 13 January to 10 February 2025.
