There have been recent changes to the Freedom Camping Act 2011 which we have reflected in our proposed bylaw. The Self-contained Motor Vehicles Legislation Act 2023 is now law, and this means there are some nation-wide changes to where you can freedom camp, the meaning of self-contained vehicle, and changes to infringement fees and fines.

The proposed bylaw ensures alignment with the new legislation and enables Council to uphold the right to freedom camp in our district, while also protecting the environmental, social, cultural and economic values of our communities.

We are seeking your feedback on the proposed bylaw. Consultation allows the community to have a say on the content of, and changes to, the bylaw. Council welcomes your feedback on the proposed Freedom Camping Bylaw with consultation open from 13 July to 14 August 2023.
