Our open spaces and public facilities provide key benefits to physical and social wellbeing and provides key links to cultural identity. Whether it’s walking the dog, playing sports or enjoying an event at the local hall, our residents value these facilities for the opportunities and connections they bring.

Waikato District Council is looking at its strategies and plans for council-owned public spaces, and community facilities.

We want to know what you like or dislike about them, or any ideas you have about the future of the amenities in your area.

This pre-consultation for the Neighbourhood Parks Reserve Management Plan, Sports Park Reserve Management Plan, and Community Facilities Strategy includes council-run sports and neighbourhood parks and reserves, playgrounds, and public spaces. Public places include community halls, aquatic facilities, community hubs, libraries and public toilets, as well as sport facilities.

What happens next?

We will use the feedback and ideas that we get from you to finalise our formal strategies and plans. A further public consultation stage will allow people to have their say on the details.

We aim to have the Community Facilities Strategy, the Sports Park Reserve Management Plan and the Neighbourhood Parks Reserve Management Plan ready for the public to have their say from October.
